The issue of language disorders is addressed by most of the laboratory’s research teams and is, as such, highly interdisciplinary. Whether it concerns clinical phonetics (supported by numerous ANR projects and led by the VESPA team, which includes clinicians from the APHM), issues related to the processing of pragmatics (schizophrenia, traumatic brain injury), speech programming (multiple sclerosis), or the links between different modalities (dyslexia), the laboratory’s teams are led to contextualize their language processing models with observations regarding populations affected by language and speech disorders.
The objectives are double :
1/ to provide knowledge that can improve diagnostics (e.g., creation of diagnostic tools) and clinical interventions
2/ to extract insights from linguistic dysfunctions that lead to a better understanding of the general processes of language production and comprehension.
